Traditional Korean Style Solid Wood Box with Mother-of-Pearl Inlay (Magnolia and Butterfly Design)
Mother-of-pearl is a material that embodies a uniquely Korean aesthetic.
It is a natural material crafted by thinly grinding the nacreous inner layer of seashells, characterized by its ability to shimmer in a variety of colors depending on the angle of the light.
Designs that display a brilliant, iridescent radiance against a glossy black background create a striking impression; because the raw material—abalone shell—is rare and the process of shaping it by hand demands immense time and effort, it is regarded as a precious item even by modern standards.
The dark-toned wooden box we present here features delicate carvings of magnolias and butterflies, symbolizing the arrival of spring.
It makes an excellent gift for storing jewelry or cherished items such as cigars.
