The Remarried Empress: Will It Pioneer the Drama Adaptation of Western-Style Romance Fantasy Webtoons?
"The Remarried Empress" is a leading global korean webtoon that had garnered 2.97 billion views as of July 2026.
It is being adapted into a drama for the first time, with its premiere scheduled for November 4, 2026, on Disney+.
Official trailer :
The Remarried Empress is a sweeping romantic fantasy epic that begins when Navier (Shin Min-a)—the perfect Empress of the Eastern Empire—is notified of her divorce by Emperor Sovieshu (Ju Ji-hoon), who has become infatuated with the runaway slave Rashta (Lee Se-young); in response, she accepts the divorce but demands approval for her remarriage to Prince Heinry (Lee Jong-suk) of the Western Kingdom.
Unlike previous webtoon adaptations that typically transposed Western romance fantasy stories into a Korean medieval setting, this production is generating buzz for being the first in Korean drama history to be filmed against a Western medieval backdrop.
It is true that following the release of the first still images, there were significant concerns regarding The Remarried Empress—a pioneering and daring project featuring Asian actors in a Western setting.
However, since the official trailer was released last week, the video has racked up a staggering 10 million views, signaling a potential major hit.
The drama stars Shin Min-a, Ju Ji-hoon, Lee Jong-suk, and Lee Se-young and is set to air soon. Despite new approaches regarding costumes, backgrounds, and the storyline, it remains to be seen whether the actors' solid acting skills can compensate for these weaknesses.
Who knows? If the drama adaptation of The Remarried Empress proves successful, we might one day see Western actors taking on the roles.
Furthermore, the drama's success could serve as a cornerstone for deciding whether other Korean romance fantasy webtoons get adapted into dramas.
KOR Store is pleased to introduce the first and second volumes of the Korean webtoon The Remarried Empress—specifically the first edition, first printing—along with the photo cards sold with them.
